WHAT WE DO

What We Do

RUN works in close partnership with the school to support the social and emotional well-being of both children and adults.

We work with children with emotional and behavioural difficulties, alongside the families and the schools. The focus of our work is to understand and address some of the factors that underlie the social and emotional challenges that are present in child development, group dynamics and school life.

A focus on the Mental Health and Well-Being of all members of the school community not only cultivates a satisfying school environment for pupils and staff, but also directly supports the promotion of effective teaching and learning.

WHY

1 in 10 children and young people have a clinically diagnosed mental health disorder and/or emotional and behaviour problems

Anti-social behaviour and conduct disorder affects over 5% of children, particularly boys, while anxiety and depression affects 4%.

Teacher stress - Over 80% of teachers report experiencing stress, anxiety and depression at work, and over 50% feeling ‘severely’ stressed.

Review of research into social and emotional interventions, and suggested that schools with effective programmes show significant improvements in:
  • achievement tests
  • social and emotional skills
  • classroom misbehaviour, anxiety and depression
